Snehasadan
‘Friendship
House’ as Fr. Frances, its founder, called it, began as a mere
corrugated 2-room structure rented at Rs. 30 monthly. No water
or light; just a shelter against the rain and cold. The night
of 29 June, feast of the Sacred Heart, 1962, saw the first two
tired and suspicious-looking lads enter Snehasadan to stay.
Their names were Mohan and Gurupadam. These two lads, at the
persistent coaxing of Frances, stayed on and thus gave courage
to others who slowly came in. catholic families who happened
to live close to Snehasadan in Holy Family parish helped in
preparing the meals. Adds Frances, ‘I preach and teach that
kindness, love and religion remove the incentives to crime’,
quoting Fr. Flanagan’s words. |
