  Reginald Master Sanskrutik Kendra

Reginald Master Sanskrutik Kendra (Culture Centre) was inaugurated and dedicated to the memory of Reginald Master by two of his music pupils, Fr. Francis Gonsalves and Shri Dominic D’Mello on Sunday, 11th February evening, on the birthday of Reginald Master at St. Michael’s Chruch complex, Manickpur. At this cultural centre music, harmonium, violin, tabla etc. will be taught. Master Reginald Fernandes, who died on 11th March 2000, worked hard as choirmaster in the Church for 54 years, besides teaching the youth, both boys and girls music and musical instruments. From among his pupils, 14 have become Priests and 23 Sisters, working in the different parts of India and even abroad. Today, St. Anthony Sangeet Mandal has 60 active members. This centre was erected with the contributions collected by the parishioners, under the inspiration and guidance of Fr. John Froz, S.J. The cost of this centre so far is about Rs. 10 lakhs.

One Sunday 18th February at 5.30 p.m. under the leadership of Fr. Vincy D’Mello, SJ., a silent candlelight morcha of school children of our schools, along with their Head Masters and about 1500 parishioners, both men and women was organized to go to the Navghar-Manickpur Municipality office and give to the authorities a letter of protest against the power-cut. As the examinations are in progress the request was made, not to cut the power. The chief officer promised to look in the matter.
