What greater joy than for a rag-picker woman to hold a
certificate in her hand and speak before a big crowd. More
than a 100 women received their certificates on completion of
their course in Adult Literacy. Their new found respect was
unbelievable.
Women of thane SHG’s put up a mela and displayed and sold the
items they make. This got good coverage in the local
vernacular pres and TV.
A 'sneha-samelan’ was held at Vashi municipal school where
REAP is involved in bringing about quality education. Almost
the whole village was present to see their children on stage.
The local Corporators were also present in all the functions.
St. Mary’s School, Mulund, invited our NFE children to their
school for a lovely interaction programme. For the first time
these children of scavengers saw what a school is like.
The staff too need a break with fun and games. A sports event
for them brought about a feeling of togetherness and joy. For
most of them it was reliving their childhood again!!
