Bishop Percival Fernandez presided over the inauguration of
our new Engineering College on 17th August 2005. Even though
the permissions from the AICTE, the State Government and the
University had come late, there had been a large demand for
admissions and the 3 batches of new students together with a
number of parents and the faculty that had just joined the
College were all present for the long awaited occasion.
At the inauguration, the Provincial, Fr. Francis de Melo
highlighted the many problems we had faced in getting the
AICTE approval and the dedicated efforts of so many in
preparing the laboratories, library, new computer center,
workshops and other facilities to match the stringent AICTE
requirements. He also pointed out the high reputation the name
Xavier had and the tradition of excellence and innovation of
our Technical Institute and the hope for even greater things
from this Engineering college. Mr. Albert D’Souza, Proprietor
and Managing Director of M/s Printania Offset Pvt. Ltd., who
had helped us very much in getting this college set up and
approved, spoke of the Jesuit traditions and the great value
it added to Catholic education in Mumbai. Others who spoke
included Mr. R. H. Mendonca, Retd. Police Commissioner of
Mumbai, Prof. Surendra Kumar, the new Principal of XIE. Fr.
Emil D’Cruz, the Chairman of the Governing Body and Fr. Reggie
Tauro, the Director.
The three branches have 60 students each:
